Many of our customers are looking for a simple, cost-effective way to manage their regulated biomedical waste without a contract. This waste is typically generated in hospitals, research laboratories, and physician, dental and veterinarian offices.

Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) biomedical waste regulations are intended to protect workers in these industries from the risk associated with bloodborne pathogens. The OSHA Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens Standard also includes rules specific to certain types of wastes generated at healthcare facilities, termed “regulated waste.” Regulated waste includes blood and items contaminated with blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).

Exposure to waste containing human bloodborne pathogens can, in some instances, result in disease.

Regulated Medical Waste

Examples of regulated medical waste include:

  • Liquid or semi-liquid blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).
  • Items contaminated with blood or OPIM which release these substances in a liquid or semi-liquid state if compressed.
  • Items that are caked with dried blood or OPIM and are capable of releasing these materials during handling.
    Contaminated sharps.
  • Pathological and microbiological wastes containing blood or OPIM.
  • The disposal regulations and requirements for biomedical waste are specific to each state.

At Maine Labpack, we offer comprehensive, no-contract biomedical waste disposal for a variety of generators. We’re here to help you keep your staff safe, and your facility in compliance with regulations. Our hazardous material experts arrive on site, remove your pre-packaged waste, and supply you with containers for future pickups.
