In terms of medical waste, sharps are any material that has a sharp point or edge that is able to cause a laceration in the skin.
Sharps include:

- Knives
- Any Sharp Object Used in the Medical Environment
Used sharps must be disposed of in a rigid, unpuncturable container in order to protect healthcare providers, waste handlers, and others moving or adding to the container.
