Pharmaceutical waste falls into one of four categories – hazardous chemical waste, non-hazardous drugs, controlled substance waste, and biomedical waste. At Maine Labpack we offer management solutions and pharmaceutical waste disposal for all of these categories.

A number of pharmaceuticals, many of which are chemotherapies, are regulated as hazardous waste because they exhibit ignitable, toxic, reactive or corrosive properties.

These pharmaceuticals include, but are not limited to:

  • Warfarin
  • Pure Nicotine
  • Uracil Mustard
  • Selenium Sulfide
  • Lindane
  • Cyclophosphamide

Non-hazardous pharmaceuticals include all drugs and medical supplies that do not carry a hazardous waste characteristic. Drugs such as antibiotics, hydrochlorothiazide, and statins are only available by prescription, and also often need secure disposal. At Maine Labpack we are able to manage non-hazardous pharmaceuticals, send them for secure incineration, and complete a certificate of destruction to ensure that these medications do not end up in the wrong hands.
